International Laboratory Relocation from Europe to California

Overview

CG Moving Company successfully supported the relocation of a specialized laboratory shipment from Europe to Northern California. The project required coordination from container arrival through final delivery into an operational lab environment.

Our team received the overseas container directly at the client’s site, conducted a live unload with real-time inventory verification, documented condition following international transit, and transported all items to their final laboratory destination.

Throughout the project, CG Moving Company worked in close coordination with lab management, facility management, and building management to ensure safe access, proper handling protocols, and minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

A key component of this project was maintaining full itemized inventory accountability, ensuring every item was tracked, verified, and delivered with precision .

International Laboratory
Scope of Work

Container Receipt at Client Site

CG Moving Company coordinated receipt of the international container directly at the client’s facility. This process was aligned in advance with lab and facility management teams to ensure proper site readiness and access.

This allowed for:

  • Immediate unloading and inspection
  • Reduced handling and risk exposure
  • Full chain-of-custody visibility from arrival

Live Unload, Inventory, and Condition Reporting

During the live unload, our team performed a line-by-line inventory verification against the international shipping documents.

In coordination with lab representatives, we ensured that sensitive equipment was identified and handled according to lab-specific requirements.

In total, over 140 individual items were:

  • Physically unloaded and accounted for
  • Logged into an itemized inventory list
  • Inspected for condition following overseas transport
  • Noted for any exceptions or visible changes
This process ensured that all items received matched the shipment documentation and provided the client with immediate visibility into shipment condition and completeness.

Inventory Scope and Complexity

The shipment included a wide range of laboratory and support assets requiring different levels of care and handling:

20–25 specialized laboratory equipment items

Including centrifuges, ultracentrifuge units, microscopes, vortex mixers, shakers, and lab-integrated computer systems

60–70 laboratory consumables and materials

Including glassware, tubes, pipettes, filters, plastic bottles, and general lab supplies

20–25 storage and shelving components

Including metal shelving, plastic bins, and lab storage systems

15–20 office and administrative items

Including office chairs, files, computers, and general supplies

10–15 mixed or packed lab components

Including grouped “lab items,” loose parts, and accessory components requiring detailed tracking

This level of inventory detail ensured full transparency and control throughout the relocation process.

Staging and Pre-Move Preparation

Following the unload and inventory verification, all items were strategically staged to support efficient final delivery.

This phase was coordinated with lab management and facility teams to align staging locations with final placement requirements.

Our team:

  • Organized items by category and destination within the lab
  • Segregated fragile and high-value equipment
  • Prepared loads for controlled and sequenced delivery

Site Preparation and Protection

Prior to moving items into the facility, CG Moving Company worked closely with building management and facility representatives to coordinate access, scheduling, and protection requirements.

We completed full path-of-travel preparation, including:

  • Clearing and securing all access routes
  • Coordinating loading zones, elevators, and timing windows
  • Identifying and mitigating handling risks

To protect both the building and the equipment, we installed:

  • Elevator padding and wall protection
  • Floor protection across all travel paths
  • Entry and corridor safeguards

Transportation and Final Delivery

Once staging and preparation were complete, the shipment was transported to the final laboratory destination.

Delivery and placement were executed in coordination with lab personnel and facility management to ensure proper positioning and workflow alignment.

Our team ensured:

  • Careful handling of sensitive scientific equipment
  • Controlled movement aligned with lab setup requirements
  • Organized delivery based on staging and inventory grouping

Results

  • Successful handling of 140+ inventoried items from container to final lab placement
  • Full itemized inventory accountability and condition reporting
  • Seamless coordination with lab, facility, and building management teams
  • Protection of both facility and equipment throughout all phases
  • Efficient execution minimizing disruption to client operations
